Deputy Smith
On December 18th, Deputy Alexander (Alex) Smith responded to a call initially reported as vandalism only to uncover a heartbreaking case of animal cruelty. The caller had returned home from traveling to find one of her dogs had tragically passed away and another had suffered an ACL tear while under the care of a neighbor.
Although this case was already under review by Animal Control, Deputy Smith took the initiative to investigate further, demonstrating true dedication to his duty. He discovered dried blood splatter throughout the home, dog nails on the staircase landing, and indentations in the drywall—details that painted a concerning picture of what may have transpired.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, Deputy Smith contacted the on-call Animal Control Officer, documented extensive call notes, and ensured all details were relayed for proper follow-up. His thoroughness and commitment ensured that this case received the attention it deserved.
Later that morning, the caller reached out to request a supervisor, not to complain—but to express deep appreciation for Deputy Smith.
She shared that she suffers from PTSD due to past experiences with law enforcement but was profoundly moved by Deputy Smith’s patience, compassion, and professionalism. She described him as someone who truly cared, took the time to listen, and changed her perspective on law enforcement for the better.

Deputy Smith’s initiative, empathy, and dedication exemplify what it means to serve and protect.
